Founder, Chief Executive Officer

Biography

Paul Hayes has been a presence in the utility mapping industry for nearly four decades, beginning his career with So-Deep Inc., the first infrastructure mapping and subsurface utility engineering firm.  Paul founded InfraMap Corp. in 1987 (then known as Accurate Locating) to develop new technologies and use them to provide utility infrastructure mapping services at reduced cost and schedule.  Paul continues to serve as CEO and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).

In his role as CTO, he manages InfraMap’s R&D and Engineered Solutions activities.  Paul has designed and built side scan sonar, subsurface imaging systems, non-destructive excavation equipment, and custom utility locating solutions.  He has written GPS data collection software, GIS software for managing utility data, and created GIS data models for all types of utility infrastructure.

Among his numerous inventions are the Utilivac® portable air/vacuum excavator. The Utilivac system is now licensed to thousands of users worldwide for use in utility locating, non-destructive excavation, and environmental remediation.  With Utilivac’s portability and reliability in the most extreme conditions, it has even made the trip to Antarctica for remediation projects.

Paul holds multiple degrees from the University of Pittsburgh where he studied Electrical and Software Engineering, Business Management, Communication Theory, Rhetoric, and Technical Writing.
